Technological Advances

The advances of technology in film has developed massively for aspiring film-makers trying to break into the industry. Short films and feature length films with a low-budget are now able to use equipment which before was impossible without a decent budget. The advances in technology has allowed filmmakers to create more complex stories with their unique filming style.

Film-making technology evolved with the Lumiere Brothers' Cinematographe which freed filmmakers to shoot on various locations instead of just in the studio. This advancement allowed filmmakers to have the option to shoot in a light controlled studio and the Lumiere Brothers allowed filmmakers to shoot on location. This allows the production and location of the film to be diverse for the filmmaker.

Young filmmakers now have the option to shoot digitally. Multiple cameras can also run on the same shot, so you are now able to shoot different angles for the same scene. For example, our group are using a Canon 5D Mark 3 and a Canon 6D to shoot are film. Having the use of two cameras will ultimately allow us to shoot at two different angles for the same scene. Also, when we have a scene where there is a two-shot camera shot, we will be able to film both actors talking so the scene is able to flow. This will allow the actors to continue the scene without any interruptions, which will ultimately allow the scene to naturally flow.
Also with camera steady equipment coming available to young filmmakers, the end result of the footage allows for a steady shot if necessary. This will ultimately save time because shots will not have to be re-shot.

Editing is also a costly process of filmmaking. Adding visual effects used to be a hard process for any filmmaker on a low budget. However, with free software available on College macs will allow us to edit the film for free.
