Costume Sketches/ Ideas

As you can see from the Survey Monkey results regarding what colour palette, our target audience want to see the colour palette of all media products to be dark, secondary colours to fit the typical conventions and stereotypes of a thriller/ crime short film. To follow our audiences needs in terms of clothing for our characters, we decided to show Anthony in predominantly black clothes to show his character status. Showing Rory (Anthony) in black clothes connotes that his character is evil, yet mysterious. Black is also connected with grief, a big aspect our short film deals with.

Anthony:

Here is an initial sketch of what clothes I thought Rory should be wearing to fit the character type of Anthony we were aiming for. As you can see, his clothes are predominantly black which fits our target audiences preferred colour scheme. As a group, to follow the fact that Anthony is not your conventional drug addict, we wanted to show his character in ordinary looking clothes, which again allows us to subvert the typical conventions of a drug addict, whilst keeping those key connotations with the use of black in his clothing.

Here is an image of Rory wearing the costume we chose Anthony to wear. As you can see, his clothes follow my initial sketch almost perfectly. Thanks to Rory for getting black clothing for the role of Anthony, we were able to achieve our desired look in terms of clothing we were initially aiming for the character of Anthony.

Lucy:

For Emma, who is playing the role of Lucy, we wanted her to again wear normal looking clothes to subvert the conventions of a typical drug addicts life. The only thing Emma needed was two white blouses (which Fin kindly supplied) so we could show the blood staines after Anthony stabbed's her.

Her is an initial sketch I did of the two white blouses, one clean blouse and one with blood staines on. I draw this image so the rest of the group could se what ideas I had come-up with for the look of the blood-stained blouse to decided whether or not they wanted more blood around the wound or not. I showed this basic sketch to director Fin to see whether he was happy with my ideas, and he was happy with what I had come-up with.

Here is two images of Emma as the character of Lucy. One showing her wearing the clean blouse and the other with the blood stained one, achieved with using fake blood. As you can see from my initial sketches to the finished product, they are very similar in terms of how the wound would look and also how much blood was going to be around it. I am very happy with the outcome of the blood stain which was done perfectly by our make-up artist, Jasmine Fassenfelt.

Jessica:

Again, we wanted the character of Jessica to look like a normal teenage girl in terms of her fashion. I didn't do any sketches as to what I wanted Becky to wear, we allowed her to chose her own clothing to fit the conventions of a normal looking teenage girl. Here is an image of the costume she wore as the character of Jessica.
